What You Should Know About Visiting Japan

When is the Best Time to Visit Japan?

Japan is amazingly popular throughout the year, but for different reasons. Spring and early summer are some of the busiest travel months because it is such a beautiful time to spend watching the cherry blossoms bloom all around the country and enjoy the long sunny days. But Fall is a great time to visit because of the changing leaves that are typically on display during this season. The colors that change during this time of the year add life to nature's scenery & it's a great time for capturing photos in them. There is also a huge variety of events and activities that take place during this time as well, so there is something for those who enjoy fall and those who want something different!

Visiting Japan in

Winter

Winter in Japan is a beautiful season that brings with it some of the best landscapes and breathtaking views of the country. The downside is that it can get pretty cold, but the upside is that people generally travel less in winter. Prices are lower and so is the traffic. All in all, winter can be a fun time to visit Japan.

Christmas, Valentines and New Years are all celebrated in Japan, but certainly differently than many other countries. The Christmas season is especially significant for couples in Japan as it is usually seen as a time for dating. These three events are all celebrated by sharing food with friends and family but it is the unique take on the holidays that make them so interesting.

New Years celebrations in Japan

Celebrations of the New Year in Japan are quite different from those in the United States. The Japanese tradition is to go to a shrine on New Year's Eve and pray for happiness, good luck, and peace for themselves and their families. Shinto priests will recite prayers from ancient scriptures to appease the gods of whichever particular shrine they are visiting. Men will give women oranges or other fruit as a greeting,

The Japanese winter is a time of beauty but it also has its downsides. It's chilly, the streets are dark, and people are bundled up in layers. But the upside is that you'll see snow-covered shrines everywhere (if you are in an area that gets snow)and be able to enjoy some of Japan's famous delicacies like oden - which is delicious!

Autumn

It is said that visiting Japan in Autumn is bad, but this is not true. Here are three reasons why it's not bad to visit Japan in the Autumn season.

1. You get to see a lot of colors

2. The weather is nice and cool

3. You get to experience the season change up close

The end of September is the start of Autumn in Japan and it is a beautiful time to visit. The leaves start to change colors, the weather cools down and you can go enjoy Koyo (viewing the autumn leaves) as many temples offer a truly authentic experience.

Spring has always been my favorite season, but this year I’ve decided to explore Autumn and I’ve found it to be just as wonderful. The colors are amazing, there are plenty of cultural events happening and there is even some traditional foods you will find only at the time of year! Momiji Manju is a popular autumn snack. Especially in places like Hiroshima.

The biggest advantage to visiting in Autumn is that this time is typically less crowded with tourists.

There are still some downsides to visiting in the fall. Mainly that it will begin getting darker sooner and if you come at the start of the fall season, there may still be some stormy weather from Typhoon season as the summer ends. The temperature can vary throughout the day and this may mean that you will want to pack a sweater or jacket in the morning, but find it too hot during the day, only to need it again in the evening.

Springtime

Visiting Japan in the Springtime is a different experience. The country is now full of life and bursting with color. You can feel the excitement in the air, as people have more time to spend with their friends and family. Flowers are blooming everywhere, giving a sweet scent to the air. Japanese culture has a strong focus on nature and this is very well seen during this season. Springtime is a great opportunity to visit shrines and temples which may be closed during winter time

If you love cherry blossoms, then you should definitely visit Japan during the spring months!

Spring is a beautiful time of year to visit Japan. Cherry-blossom trees are blooming and the weather is mild, but not too humid. To get the most out of your trip, we recommend visiting Tokyo in the late March or early April, when the flowers are in full bloom.

The biggest downside to visiting Japan in the Spring… It is THE most popular time of year. Both tourists and local Japanese people are eager to go out and enjoy the beautiful weather and the blooming Sakura, so some areas may be more crowded than other times of the year.

Summertime

The summertime can be a great time to visit Japan. This is because the best festivals and events take place during this season. Festivals like the Tenjin Matsuri, the Tanabata Festival, and Obon are all held in summer.

Many people are huge fans of these festivals and would go to any lengths to see them. Unfortunately, some people cannot make it due to work or other commitments. Fortunately, if you are here on vacation you can take full advantage of all of the unique festivals and events.

BUT, There are some reasons why summer is not the best time to visit Japan.

In the summer, Japan's humidity level is high and this can make visiting Japan uncomfortable. The average humidity level in Japan falls within the range of 40%-60% in the fall and winter, and in the spring it falls within the range of 30%-50%. In the summer, humidity levels can go as high as 80%-90%.

In the summer, there is also a higher chance of rain or typhoons (especially at either end of the summer).
